What is a Closed Suction System?
The Closed Suction System is intended for the removal of secretions in the lower respiratory tract in patients receiving prolonged mechanical ventilation. This filter-protected system is connected to the artificial airway of the patient (Endotracheal or Tracheostomy tube) and to the ventilation circuit. It is designed for use over a period of 24 to 72 hours, depending on patient requirements.

1. Continuous Airway Support: Unlike traditional methods, there is no need to disconnect the patient's oxygen airway during suctioning.
2. Cost-Efficiency: When reused for 48-72 hours, the average cost per suctioning event is significantly reduced compared to using dozens of traditional catheters.
3. Reduced Cross-Infection: Each catheter is covered by a protective sleeve, preventing secretions from splashing and protecting both patients and medical staff.
